On the beginning there was a desert. Then courageous men arrived to build the cities of light among the golden desert dunes. These photos are spectacular and Rob Work is a spectacular photographer. One can say that We are witnessing the dawn of new civilisation in the middle of sandy dunes. The composition, colour and above all, the lighting on Rob’s photographs is excellent and very well selected. These are probably one of the best images of Dubai City I have ever come across.

I’ve never thought very hard about creating a style, although my favorite photos tend to be urban night shots and desert scenes. I’ve found that putting my camera in unusual places (strapped to the front of my car while driving through a tunnel for example) has yielded me the best results. I also recently purchased a quadcopter drone, and I’ve been spending lots of time getting familiar with it and learning how to get the most out of my photos while using it. — Rob Work

Rob Work: I’m an engineer by trade, but have been an avid photographer since 2008, when my wife bought me my first DSLR for Christmas. It was the best present I’ve ever received. I live in Dubai, which has a great mix of urban and desert opportunities for photography. The weather is brutal for half of the year (I have to put my camera gear outside for about 2 hours in the summer before shooting so my lenses don’t fog up from the heat and humidity), but Dubai has been one of the best places I could imagine to hone one’s craft.
